Children’s Activities and Book Fair (Entire Weekend Schedule)

Come join us for wonderfully fun and exciting activities for your child(ren) all weekend.

Short Story Contest

Children in grades four through grade six are invited to participate in our Short Story Contest about Choo Choo (pronounced Shu Shu) the alligator, our literary festival mascot.  Entries will base their story on adventures in South Louisiana. (fiction or non-fiction).  The story will be judged on the following criteria– originality, creativity/style and conventions of text and under .  Cash prizes will be given for winning entries (1st-3rd place) and will be announced at Noon at the Rodrigue Blue Dog Park on April 1st, 2023 and will appear in The Daily Iberian. Students may drop off their entries any time prior to Friday, March 3rd at the Children’s Room of the Main branch of the Iberia Parish Library. Contest applications may be picked up at the Main Branch of the Iberia Parish Library starting Wednesday, February 1, 2023.

Children ages 1-3 are invited to dance and make music with their instruments. We will talk about the importance of cleaning up trash and tidy up the butterfly garden. Meet Joy Belle

Meet registered pet therapy dog, Joy Belle.  She will be at the Blue Dog Rodrigue Park to provide children with an opportunity to read aloud.  Joy Belle will sit calmly for a story, creating a relaxing atmosphere for your child to read one-on-one with her.  Your child may practice their reading skills without fear or judgement.  Available at the Children’s Authors Fair from 10:00 a. m. to 3:00 p. m. First come, first served.

STEM Storytime Challenge! 

Ages 9+ are invited to join us for a STEM Storytime Challenge.  Kelsye Baudoin is a former school librarian and currently serves as the Head of Programming for St. Martin Parish Library.
